I got a good laugh out of this slashdot review of Google Hacking for Penetration Testers.

As it happened, I was in my local Borders a few weeks ago and the book was unassumingly stuffed into a shelf with other sys admin and hacking books. I picked up the book, thinking that I knew the author’s name from somewhere, and I bought it on a whim.

It’s been sitting on my nightstand for the past few days, but I can’t give you a good overview of it yet, other than to say there are a heck of a lot of things that not only satiate my intellectual curiosity, but also plenty of stuff to work on concerning my day job.

What’s sadder…being on an Apple announce mailing list or seriously contemplating the thought of purchasing the super cool upgrade?

If it were only so easy to figure out what to wear….

After doing a quick “link: ” review on Google this week for some of the sites I manage for my day job, I think the number one reason why I like Google Ad Words so much is because Google spiders those spammy sites that are designed/used/manipulated to showcase Google Ads. Here is an example of a “Sponsored Links” spammy site set up by an apparent domain registrar trying to get hits.

Therefore, any of your ads that happen to show up on those spammy sites during the spidering are therefore counted as legit links back to your site. So, not only are you getting ad impressions, but your Google Ranking would naturally tend to go up with more links.

What a beautiful morning….the weather forecast states Abundant Sunshine and I don’t have to go out and about until noon. :-D

I only wish I was able to sleep in. Even though my daughter is with her Dad this weekend, I still woke up at 7.30. But on the other hand, little else* beats drinking coffee and surfing wirelessly from your bed in a quiet house.

*this is a family oriented blog, we won’t get into that…

My daughter has yet another fever tonight. It looks like she will be home from school tomorrow.

Saw Sin City this weekend. As someone who wasn’t familiar with the source material, all I can say is that it was…interesting. Clive Owen was cute, but unfortunately not shirtless at all in the movie, unlike several of his female co-stars. This review made sense of the movie.

Also, did anyone else catch that Basin City is supposed to be NYC? Did ya see the sign for Route 287 when the characters would drive out of the city? Also, the car that picked up Kevin at the farm had NY plates.

Oh, gmail, oh gmail…why have you forsaken me? Or locked me out?

I am one of the apparently many who have gotten the dreaded lockdown message from gmail. (I mainly access the account from Firefox on OS X using the gmail notifier plug in…)

Have no idea why I got the message today as I have been using this same setup for the past 5 months or so.

Update: I have been reinstated, but if the problem was the gmail notifier, why doesn’t gmail just explicitly ban it’s use?

Internet To Close For Maintenance This Weekend

BERN, Switzerland (Reuters) — Long-scheduled maintenance will bring the Internet down this Saturday from 9PM to 3AM Greenwich Mean Time.

The Internet Architecture Board, in coordination with the United Nations, has planned an “infrastructure maintenance window” for several years. According to IAB Senior Consultant Ursula Techenspüf “such a massive network requires occasional maintenance to upgrade aging equipment.” Also planned is the first resorting of IP (Internet Protocol) numbers since before the dotcom boom.

Techenspüf added “Years ago, when the Internet was largely academic, such maintenance was not as stressful or disruptive. Most maintenance can be performed on a ‘hot’ network now, but resetting of the Internet core still requires taking it down.”

Users should not expect to lose much data, although experts do warn of a potential data surge when the network comes back up, and advise users to bring systems back on the network slowly and cautiously.
