There is a part of me that is impressed…The NY times discusses blog bling, those little mini application widgets you see on blog sidebars. Like, for example the MyBlogLog widget I display.

I try to remain blingless, but I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep to that very long.

Personally, I only visit sites if they have at least 34 pieces of flare, oh, I mean widgets. Any less just shows a lack of respect for one’s blog.

The cool thing about widgets is that they allow bloggers (and myspacers, etc.) to essenentially craft their own customized software solution through use of which bling they place where.
Much of it will be of marginal use of course (if you want a bling-fest, step right on over to myspace.com!), but simple, elegant, and powerful widgets like MyBlogLog’s can help plug a standalone blog into a much wider community of potential readers.
